Description

New York $500 FRN

Fr. 1132-B $500 1918 Federal Reserve Note PMG Very Fine 25.
New York-issued $500 FRNs are the most common of all the districts with 56 examples known (four of which are in the collections of the Smithsonian and the Federal Reserve Banks of Chicago, Dallas, and San Francisco), yet demand for the notes has increased substantially, as these high denomination notes make fewer and fewer auction appearances with each passing year. This attractive mid-grade specimen has solid margins, and its relatively bright paper is complemented by a deep blue overprint and deeply printed design elements including the portrait of Chief Justice John Marshall, engraved by Charles Schlecht. A quartet of tiny pinholes have been noted by PMG, but they do not detract from the overall aesthetic appeal of this crisp New York $500.
