Description

High Grade $500 1918 FRN

Fr. 1132-B $500 1918 Federal Reserve Note PMG About Uncirculated 55.
The $500 1918 FRN note face features a large portrait of John Marshall, engraved by Charles Schlecht based on a portrait by Henry Inman. The back has a detailed view titled DeSoto Discovering the Mississippi based on a painting by W.H. Powell engraved by Frederick Girsch. Fifty-five examples appear in the census with only two notes listed with higher grades than this example. The note is well printed on bright paper with straight razor sharp margins and very good face-to-back registration. The colors are all still vivid and the only impairments mentioned are some pinholes which affect very little. We last offered this note as part of our 2023 FUN Currency Signature Auction when it realized $44,400.
