Description

Highest Graded Fr. 1132

Fr. 1132-B $500 1918 Federal Reserve Note PMG About Uncirculated 55.
A New York $500 that was reported long ago as being part of the William Donlon Collection. It was next owned by Thomas F. Morris, Jr., the son of Thomas F. Morris, Sr. The senior Morris was a paper money designer for the ABNCo, the Homer Lee BNCo, and he came to work for the BEP on November 1, 1893. Next, we had the privilege to offer this note at auction. The first time was at our May 1998 Spring Auction and the second time was at our auction of the Taylor Family Collection in February 2005. It is back once again for a repeat performance. As a plate letter C note, it has more than satisfactory margins and excellent color. Today, this $500 is the highest graded Fr. 1132-B by PMG with its closest competitor being a AU 50. Our current offering is also one of the highest graded of this design that includes Friedberg numbers of 1132-A through 1132b-J. Our look at the PMG Population Report for those Friedberg numbers finds a total of two graded equal and only three higher. Pinholes are mentioned on the PMG label, but they are well hidden, and the same is true for the light handling that earned this $500 its AU 55 grade.
