Description

Framed Federal Reserve Note Presentation Set

April 9, 1915 Framed Federal Reserve Note Face and Back Proof Presentation Set.
Dated April 9, 1915, this framed Federal Reserve Note Proof presentation set includes face and back Proofs for the $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 Series of 1914 Red Seal notes. The display, mounted in a large mat, was presented to William J. Martin, Confidential Secretary to Treasury Secretary W.G. McAdoo, by Bureau of Engraving and Printing Director Joseph E. Ralph, and includes a signed inscription. Only four such sets are currently traceable, each distributed to notable individuals under McAdoo's authority, and all composed of Proof impressions with red seals and solid-zero serial numbers applied. This example shows a mix of natural aging across nine notes, with one remaining bright, consistent with other known sets, and represents a rare occasion where Proof material was formally released in presentation form by the Bureau. When presented at auction, these sets have topped $20,000, and realized as much as $27,600.
