Description

One-Number Major Type 1918 $50

Fr. 831 $50 1918 Federal Reserve Bank Note PCGS Extremely Fine 45.
This is not a really rare note in terms of numbers known, with a few over fifty pieces enumerated, but about a dozen are permanently impounded and the remaining thirty-odd pieces are held closely by collectors. This is a one-number major type. The St. Louis district was the only district for which Fifties were printed, and this Teehee-Burke, Attebery-Wells signature combination was the only one employed. The note is broadly margined with excellent color and terrific eye appeal. This same note has been variously graded as AU or Uncirculated over the years. Its highest price realized was in its last appearance as an AU in our January 2008 auction, where it realized $23,000.
