Serial Number 9 Battleship Deuce - One of Two Tied for Finest Known

Fr. 768 $2 1918 Federal Reserve Bank Note PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
Everybody loves the $2 Battleship FRBNs. And what is not to love? The back has a dynamic detailed vignette of the battleship New York, veteran of both World Wars. The note has checked all of the boxes for its grade: it is well printed with vibrant colors on bright paper with original surfaces, and the margins and registration are also excellent. But wait....there is more. The note bears serial number 9. And it does not stop there. Of the 43 examples of this Friedberg number presently recorded in the PMG Population Report, none top this note (and one other with which it is tied) in terms of grade. The last recorded public appearance of this note was in 2012, over a decade ago, when it brought just under $15,000. We believe that level will be tested or bested tonight.
