Rare St. Louis $5 Demand Note
Fr. 5 $5 1861 Demand Note PMG Fine 12.While $5 Demand Notes periodically appear, they are usually from one of the East Coast cities like New York, Philadelphia, or Boston. However, notes payable in St. Louis are another matter with the Track & Price census recording just ten notes. This offering is a new addition to the small group and, though well circulated, it retains a pleasing appearance with decent color and printed details for the grade. PMG has noted a minor restoration but any such repair is of little consequence considering the rarity and desirability of this tough Demand Note. For comparison purposes, we sold a repaired PMG Very Fine 20 note in our last Long Beach auction for $12,000.
