Important FNB of Norwich, Connecticut $10 Face Proof A "First 100 Charters" Bank That Wasn't

Fr. 409 $10 Original Series FNB of Norwich, Connecticut Charter #65 Face Proof Hessler 497FD. PCGS Choice About New 55 Apparent.
When the bank was organized, it quickly ordered four subject sheets of $10 notes but discovered that its paperwork with the government was not correct. As a result, these notes were most likely never delivered, although proofs like this were prepared. The bank was properly organized in 1864 as charter #458 and began issuing notes under that number. This proof, dated Nov. 2, 1863 and printed by American Bank Note Co., is printed on India paper with four HPCs. Mentioned are "Small Edge and Internal Tears; Mounted (on new yellow card)."

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
