Fr. 3 $5 1861 Demand Note PMG Very Fine 25.Serial number 5819-C in this lot once belonged to Dallas oilman, paper money collector, and 1953 president of the Dallas Coin Club, Robert F. Schermerhorn, who passed away on August 28, 1957. Mr. Schermerhorn's name is associated with many large size rarities. Track & Price reports 115 examples enumerated for Fr. 3 with only 14 issued notes grading higher. This nicely margined example sports great color and the look of a higher grade. The last Fr. 3 that we offered graded PMG VF 25 with minor repairs and it realized $4,800 in November 2020. The example in this lot has closed pinholes, which on a Demand Note, are practically mandatory. It is certainly a note that will fit nicely in the finest of collections.
