Description

Attractive PMG 35 Payable at Boston $5 Demand Note

Fr. 3 $5 1861 Demand Note PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
Serial number 28785 from Series 12 in this lot was first documented in the late 1980s and went on to be part of The Herman Halpern Collection that was dispersed at auction in 1993. We offered it for the first time in September 2008 where it was acquired by our consignor. This example is an attractive payable at Boston note sporting white paper, dark inks, and a comment free third party holder. It is also the solitary fifth highest graded Fr. 3 examined by PMG. The four higher PMG graded examples are two 35 EPQ pieces, a 35 EPQ* note, and a 66 EPQ example. Our current offering is the nicest Fr. 3 to appear at auction since a PCGS Apparent 40 crossed the auction block for a little over $11,000 in 2013. Since Friedberg numbers 1, 2, and 3 have similar population figures according to Track & Price, a little more recent comparison can be made with a New York Fr. 1 in a comment free PMG 35 holder that realized $16,450 in our January 2019 FUN auction.
