Description

Fr. 190b $10 1864 Compound Interest Treasury Note PMG Very Fine 25.
Compound Interest Treasury Notes are an elusive class of notes. Fortunately, there are enough examples of this Friedberg number with a little over 100 serial numbers recorded to satisfy much, but not all, of the collector demand. This good looking mid-grade $10 with an August 15, 1864 date has lots of original color and excellent eye appeal with the bronze overprint not compromising the paper one iota. The back label states that this note was repaired. We first offered this $10 in the raw for our January 1997 auction and mentioned then that there were some minor restorations to the edges. These restorations are only noticed when the note is backlit. The fact remains that today only about 20% of the serials listed in Track & Price for Fr. 190b are graded higher than the charming piece in this lot.
