Popular Fr. 1179 $20 "Technicolor" Gold Certificate
Fr. 1179 $20 1905 Gold Certificate PMG Very Fine 20."Technicolor" Gold Certificates are a popular one-year type and rank among the most distinctive of the United States Federal issues. The golden-yellow tint across the face and gold inset lettering at the top and bottom center combine to create an impressive contrast with the black main-plate engraving. Further colorful accents are added by the red treasury seal and serial numbers. With George Washington at the center, the main face design departs from the 1882 series. The bright orange backs have a large-size Great Seal of the United States and display intricate bordering. This earlier signature combination of Lyons and Roberts is a bit scarcer than the subsequent Fr. 1180 pieces. A well-centered, circulated note that maintains its face and back color ably. PMG notes "Ink Added to Serial Numbers" with the enhancement difficult to see. A very collectible example of this Federal type classic.
