Milton 3R3.1c No Pearls Variety Fr. 1226 3¢ Third Issue PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.Well above-average margins and good centering lead to the assigned Gem grade for this always popular low denomination note. This example represents the "No Pearls" variety of this Friedberg number and is cataloged as 3R3.1c in the Milton Friedberg numbering system of Fractionals. This is a minor, but scarce variety distinguished by the lack of two small hollow circles that appear beneath the diamond at the bottom center of the portrait. Research has indicated that these pearls are missing only from two face plates, numbers 32 and 35. While not bringing a strong premium, the variety has always interested Fractional collectors.
