Description
Rare Lightly Circulated Allison-New Spinner
Fr. 1330 50¢ Third Issue Spinner PMG About Uncirculated
55.Fr 1330 is one of the classic Fractional rarities. These notes are signed by Allison and New. Fr. 1330 is the only opportunity to obtain a hand-signed John New example of U.S. currency. Allison and New were in office together from June 30, 1875 until January 7, 1876. These Red Back Spinner notes should have been issued well prior to that. They were clearly not intended as a regular issue, but rather, they were signed to be given to friends or as some form of a patronage favor. In any event, they became Legal Tender when signed, as Allison and New were legal signers. The majority of known 1330s grade 60 and higher. No accurate census exists, but the presumed census is in the 25 to 35 range. This cataloger's personal guess is that three unsigned sheets of twelve were originally signed, and most of the notes have survived. The typical super-high grade 1330s sell in the $7,000 range. This very respectable 55 should realize about a third of that even with the "Pinholes" mentioned on the back label.
