Description

Fr. 1329 50¢ Third Issue Spinner PCGS New 62.
An appealing autographed Spinner note that is not your typical example of this Friedberg number. For the last four decades, there has been continued conversation about the "Team of Clerks" that were hired to hand-sign notes instead of the actual officials. Anyone familiar with Fractional is extremely familiar with the signatures of Spinner, Allison, Colby, and Jeffries. Their signatures are invariably executed by the actual people. This Friedberg 1329, which bears the Allison/Spinner signature combination, has clearly been signed by an amanuensis on both sides. The Allison signature is thinner and slightly different, but an excellent copy of his real handwriting. The Spinner signature is an even better copy, but it is massively too small and too thin and appears to be an effeminate hand. Spinner was one of the first government officials to hire women into his department, and it would make sense that this would have been one of their jobs. To our knowledge this is the only authentic non-authentically signed regular issue Fractional note where the signatures are definitively done by a third party. Difficult to estimate, but never fearing a challenge...
