PCGS 63 PPQ Solid Surcharge Fessenden
Fr. 1299 25¢ Third Issue PCGS Banknote Choice Unc 63
PPQ.These solid surcharge Fessendens, both this 1299 and its sheet-mate 1300, are just about impossible to locate in undamaged high grades. The extremely brittle paper led to splits, chips, and missing chunks that are near universal. This note has somehow missed out on all of these perennial problems. Carmine acquired this note from the PCDA 2005 auction, where it was lot 339. Photo matching clearly demonstrates that it was previously lot 603 from our sale of the Friedberg collection in January of 1997. Due to its high technical grade combined with excellent eye appeal, this note attracts considerable attention every decade or so when it appears at auction.
