Description
Fr. 1294 25¢ Third Issue PCGS Superb Gem New 68PPQ.This note has the two normally seen half-moon cancels as well as three round cancels. However, this example is not on fiber paper, as most of the Fessenden Experimentals are. It's printed on thick, soft, white paper. It has the blue SPECIMEN vertically in front of Fessenden's face. It was listed as unique in the Friedberg reference without a provenance, as this is the only piece known and was in the F.C.C. Boyd collection, to which Milt had no access. When we last offered it in April of 2015, this note realized $1880. The 68 grade is almost never seen on any Fractional Experimental or progress piece. With the current emphasis on high grade, we would anticipate a much higher realization now.
