Description

Fr. 1269 15¢ Fourth Issue PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ Milton 4R15.4d.
A crushingly rare variety, this type was originally listed in Milt's Encyclopedia of United States Postage & Fractional Currency as follows: "Special notes: 1947 Limpert List, pg. 30. The outstanding rarity of D17, in my estimation, is when there is a 'clasp' shown from the second largest star of the cornet, going obliquely (ne to sw) over the hair to the brow above the right eye of the Vignette of Columbia. I noted this variety myself and am offering $25 for another like it, just to ascertain if there are any more around." Just to be abundantly clear, in 1947 $25 for a note such as this was a ton of money. There are believed to be three known, and this is easily the finest of that select group. After decades specializing in Fractional Currency, and in the interest of full disclosure, this is the only example we have ever seen.
