Description
Milton 1P5F.1f 5¢ First Issue Face Proof PMG Extremely Fine 40 Net.The rare Face Proof last appeared in our 2005 Central States auction where we said, "Printed from the completed plate (double frame line removed) in brown ink on thin, soft proofing paper. That paper is in turn mounted on a soft card. In the Fractional Encyclopedia, where this note is plated both sides on page 22, Milt Friedberg referred to the backing as being "almost blotter paper." Pencil notations on the glue-stained back read, "74a not in Val," which refers to the 1924 Valentine reference book. There is a considerable amount of surface damage on the front, but the design is seriously affected only at the lower right corner."
Estimate: $400 - up.
