Complete First Issue Perforated with Monogram Fr. 1279 Uncut Sheet of 16

Fr. 1279 Milton 1R25.3c 25¢ First Issue Uncut Sheet of 16 PMG Choice About Unc 58 EPQ.
Our very first offering of a complete perforated 25¢ with monogram uncut sheet. It is a beautiful example with vivid color and mostly clean perforations throughout save for a few of the chads remaining attached. It has also retained its complete selvage, which is a very hard accomplishment due to the fragility of the perforations. The as made ink comment on the third party back label is a workman's fingerprint found in the back left selvage. The face plate number is 10 and the back plate number was not printed. The second edition Kravitz mentions that perforated sheets are known, but they are very rare. He states a population figure of only three uncut sheets for Fr. 1279, with the last one to sell in 2006. That is the sheet in this lot which was purchased by our consignor at that auction. Not a single perforated uncut sheet of any denomination was represented in any of these formidable collections, Boyd-Ford, Milton Friedberg, Tom O'Mara, nor our recently concluded auction of the Robert Laub Collection. The provenance for this sheet can be traced back to at least 1934 and this is only the second time it has appeared at auction. It is simply a rare uncut sheet with even fewer opportunities to acquire an example.
