Description

Fr. 1229 Milton 1R5.2d 5¢ First Issue Inverted Back PCGS Fine 15.
Fractional Currency inverts are always popular. The First Issue inverts all have fully inverted backs. Fr. 1229, with perforated edges and no ABNCo monogram, is the rarest of the 5¢ First Issue series. When Milt Friedberg published his Encyclopedia of Postage and Fractional Currency, this was listed as unique. That note, in higher grade, sold as lot 750 of Milt's sale. This example, sold in the Ford XIX sale, lot 599, is the only example to come to light since.
