Impressive $1000 1918 San Francisco FRN

Fr. 1133-L $1000 1918 Federal Reserve Note PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
Higher-denomination Federal Reserve Notes ($500, $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000) were created for a new Series of 1918 issues. The style and layouts were similar to the 1914 series notes with portraits on the faces and ornate green backs. The $1,000 blue seal note features Alexander Hamilton on the face as engraved by G. F. C. Smillie; the back shows Marcus Baldwin's Eagle. Notes were issued from all 12 districts, but San Francisco is the most frequently encountered $1,000 type. There are 59 examples recorded by Track & Price. Mike acquired this privately in 2014, and the serial number is newly reported here raising the total to 60. We are unaware of any auction records for this particular note. It is perfect for the type and grade: crisp, vibrant, and colorful. There is some commonly encountered light teller soiling at the right end of the face. Otherwise it has all the hallmarks of an EPQ example. We recently sold a similar PMG Very Fine 35 note in April 2020 for $25,200. These high denominations are impressive and always attract attention.
From The Mike Coltrane Collection.
