Dramatic Cleveland $2 Doubled Print Error
Doubled Print Error Fr. 1935-D $2 1976 Federal Reserve Note. PMG
Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.A dramatic additional third printing overprint is found on this Cleveland deuce. Eye appeal is an understatement, as these error Cleveland $2s are what is emblazoned in every serious error collector's mind when this error type is under discussion. All of the examples known show two different serial numbers which are separated by three or four digits as expressed on page 128 of United States Paper Money Errors fourth edition by Dr. Frederick J. Bart. The serial numbers are shifted far enough apart vertically so that all ten characters of each are distinct, and they also nearly have the same shade of green ink. The doubled serials on this example are D22822518A/D22822514A. Also, the district seal, the Treasury seal, and all four "4" Cleveland Federal Reserve district indicators are dark and doubled. Our well preserved current offering comes from a small range of recorded serial numbers for this error. The last example that we offered in PMG 64 EPQ was in our Long Beach October 2022 auction which realized $13,800. Generally, the Cleveland doubled print errors require higher winning bids when offered at auction. More of the same is expected this time, too.
