Description
Fresh, Choice AU T59 Inverted Back Error
Inverted Back Error T59 $10 1863 PF-19IB Cr. 442IB PMG Choice
About Unc 58.Pierre Fricke's 2014 reference assigns this scarce inverted back error variety an R11- rarity, with perhaps 15-20 examples known at the time his book was published. While that count is likely closer to 20 notes today, most are locked away in institutional collections. In fact, twelve representatives are locked away at the Museum of the Confederacy, which merged with the American Civil War Museum. Our current offering could very well be the finest cancelled piece of this variety in existence. It is printed on bright paper surfaces and features a vivid blue back and a colorful red "SEPT'R, 1863." date stamp on the face. More importantly, it has not attracted any meaningful condition impairments, save for the two small cut out cancellations at lower right and left. We most recently auctioned a hammer cut cancelled example graded at the PCGS Banknote VF 25 level which brought $1,952. Prior to that realization, an uncancelled PMG Choice VF 35 certified note crossed our desk and garnered $2,640. This note could test, if not exceed, both those prices.
