Description

T54 $2 1862 PF-11 Cr. 392 PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
A near-Gem example of the popular T54 type is offered here. A well printed portrait of Judah P. Benjamin graces the right side of this pleasing piece. This note was printed by Hoyer & Ludwig, though their imprint does not appear on the note due to their tense relationship with the Confederate government. After they refused to comply with orders to evacuate Richmond as Union General McClellan approached in the Spring of 1862, Confederate Secretary of the Treasury C.G. Memminger forbade their imprint from being added to any Confederate note they printed.
