Charming Choice Uncirculated T53 with "Great Color" Accolade
T53 $5 1862 PF-13 Cr. 388 PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.After J.T. Paterson & Co.'s contracts with the Confederate government were cancelled in the fall of 1863, Evans & Cogswell took over the printing of the T53 as well as several other types. Their imprint appears along the left end of the note, above the serial number and below "The" in "The Confederate States of America". Printed on bright pink paper, our current offering is nearly fully framed, with the right margin being a bit tight, and a rich, vibrant blue back is noticed. This bold blue back, along with well printed design details on the face, have earned this note the coveted "Great Color" accolade from PMG. The most recent comparable T53 example to cross our desk was a PCGS Banknote CU 64 certified piece which brought $671 in March 2026.
