Description
T45 $1 1862 PF-1 Cr. 342A PMG Choice About Unc 58.T45s are much scarcer than their T44 counterparts because of the addition of the green overprint on the face of the T45. This attractive overprint was included at the direction of Blanton Duncan, but it was not free of charge. Because the Confederate government did not authorize it, Duncan was quickly forced to remove the overprint. At left on this note is a depiction of Liberty, at center is a vignette of a seafaring vessel, likely a Confederate blockade runner, and at right is a portrait of South Carolinian socialite and First Lady of South Carolina Lucy Pickens. This beautiful note was precluded from a higher grade due to a light, lower left corner fold and a tight right margin, but it is an excellent representative of a popular type which should attract considerable attention.
