Description

Cancelled by A.J. Guirot T40 $100 1862 PF-1 Cr. 298 PMG Very Fine 25 Net.
A.J. Guirot, Assistant Treasurer of the Confederacy, served in New Orleans until 1862 and then Jackson until March 1863, before being stationed in Mobile, AL, for the remainder of the war. He has cancelled this note with a heavily inked endorsement on the face which has partially obscured a more detailed endorsement on the back datelined Mobile on November 17, 1864. Two IP stamps on the back record interest being paid at an unknown location on January 1, 1863, and Jackson on January 1, 1864, (it is likely that this stamp was used to pay interest at a location other than Jackson [perhaps Mobile] as Jackson had fallen to Union forces in the summer of 1863.) The endorsement on the face has resulted in ink burn that has obscured portions of the endorsement on the back.
