Agent Endorsement "T Sanford Depositary-Montgomery" T39 $100 1862 PF-5 Cr. 290 PMG Very Fine 25 Net.One of two examples recorded at present, this note, which has the plate printer name "Bael" appearing in the right selvage, has a manuscript endorsement of Thaddeus Sanford as Depositary at Montgomery, AL, (appointed May 9, 1862) issuing this note to the field on July 19, 1862. A blue Montgomery IP stamp paying interest to January 1, 1863, shows that the note apparently stayed close to "home" for at least some time after being initially issued. An endorsement of A.C. French also appears on the back although there is presently no information on the reason for its presence nor on French's background. PMG notes the presence of a fold intersection body hole and tears, although neither of these issues is overly distracting.
