Description
First Day of Issue - Serial Number 4 - Doubled Register
T39 $100 1862 PF-20 Cr. UNL PMG Choice Extremely Fine
45.This T39 has a lot going for it with a single digit serial number identifying it as one of the very first notes issued on the first day of issue for T39 $100s, May 5, 1862. In addition, it has an interesting error, with both the title "Register" and the line for the Register signer's signature being doubled as well as a red stamped "91262" validation date indicating that the note had been adjudged to be genuine on that date by authorities during a counterfeit scare that briefly gripped the Confederacy at the time. Three IP stamps on the back record the payment of interest in an unspecified location in 1863, Columbus, MS, in 1864, and Augusta, GA, in 1865. Aside from some stray pinholes which affect little, the note is free of repairs or meaningful impairments. This is the first time we have offered this variety in one of our public auctions.
