Description

Tough Montgomery Issued T-4 $50

T4 $50 1861 Cr. 4.
Hilton originally acquired this note, which first appeared on eBay in 2000, at our 2011 FUN Signature Auction to complete a trade for another note. When his trading partner later decided to sell his collection, the note ended back up in our consignor's hands. PMG grades this $50 Very Good 8 Net due to restorations. The note still faces up well and has interesting annotations on the back indicating that, after being issued on June 5, 1861, the CSA Assistant Treasurer in New Orleans, A.J. Guirot had handled the note and that Mayer Bros. had received Fifty and 15/100 dollars in principal and interest from F.H. Hatch, Collector on July 6, 1861. The 15ยข represented the interest on the $50 face value for one month. There is a lot of history here for a more modest price.
