Description

T24 $10 1861 PF-1 Cr. 156 PMG Choice About Unc 58.
This note was printed early in 1862, before Leggett was forced out of Leggett, Keatinge & Ball by Memminger due to alleged connections with a Union spy. A portrait of Dr. Alfred L. Elwyn as a child appears along with that of R.M.T. Hunter, Secretary of State. Ironically, Elwyn was a Philadelphia minister who had no connections to the South. The vignette was apparently chosen for purely aesthetic reasons as no one receiving the note at the time would have had any idea who the child depicted on the note was. PMG notes toning.
