Description

T23 $10 1861 PF-1 Cr. 153 PMG Very Fine 25.
The T23, along with the T32 we are also offering in this auction, was derived from plates donated to the Confederate Treasury Department by the Mechanics Savings Bank of Savannah. This mid-grade piece features a portrait of John Elliot Ward, a former president of the Mechanics Savings Bank, at left, laborers driving a horse drawn wagon loaded with cotton bales at center, and a vignette of the Corn Gatherer at right. An orange "X - TEN - X" underprint completes the design. The protector on this piece, while slightly faded, remains largely unoxidized, a rare occurrence on circulated examples of this type. In January 2025, we auctioned another PMG VF 25 certified representative with minor rust which brought $2,640. Our current offering is happily free of any meaningful condition impairments.
