Description
Incredibly Rare T21 with "Great Color" Accolade
T21 $20 1861 PF-6 Cr. 146 PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.Issued from June 28 through November 15, 1862, and dated September 2, 1861, the T21 presents itself as a high quality Keatinge & Ball creation. The design features a portrait of Vice President of the Confederacy Alexander Stephens at center, surrounded by various tools and symbols of Agriculture, Industry, and Commerce, including gears, a cornucopia, hammers, and cotton bales. Flanking the central portrait are two green "XX" denominational die counters, and at both far right and left are green panels. The printer's imprint, which is slightly askew and appears within a portion of the green border, is located at upper center. The defining characteristic of this particular example is undoubtedly its choice condition. Printed on bright paper watermarked "CSA" in vertical block letters, this note displays a nearly full frame and lacks any meaningful condition impairments or evidence of circulation. Due to its lovely dark blue-green tint color, PMG has awarded their "Great Color" accolade which is described on the back label. We have auctioned just two examples across all varieties of this type in Uncirculated or better condition, and this piece is the sole finest T21 certified by PMG, according to the PMG Population Report. We have estimated quite conservatively for this magnificent representative, but expect our evaluation will be outdistanced.
