Description

T19 $20 1861 PF-1 Cr. 137 PMG Very Fine 25 Net.
Southern Bank Note Co. (the New Orleans office of ABNCo) designed and printed this $20 that used prewar vignettes of Minerva at left, Commerce at center, Pat Lyon at the Forge at right, and had three red-orange counters. 14,860 notes were issued before the fall of New Orleans brought an abrupt end to production at the end of April, 1862. PMG notes that this example has been cancelled and has restorations (the bottom edge has been built up, small edge tears and splits have been sealed, and damage at "No." on the left has been repaired) and pieces added (a portion of the lower left corner tip has been replaced). After all is said and done, this note still faces up quite well.
