Description
Delightful T15 $50 with Excellent Color
T15 $50 1861 PF-1 Cr. 79 PMG Very Fine 25.The highest denomination emitted as part of a four note, September 2, 1861, series produced by the SBNCo, the T15 $50 Confederate Treasury Note had a small issuance number of 14,860 examples. After the fall of New Orleans, which was home to the SBNCo's office, in April 1862, the company halted production on this four note series. At left, Hope leans on an anchor as she presents a cornucopia. At right, Justice holds up her scales in her right hand and clutches a sword hand utilized to enforce the law in her left. At center, a steam locomotive races by in a vignette entitled the Hudson River Railway scene. A beautiful red-orange protector comprised of two "L"s flanking an ornate lathework panel is present at lower center. Well printed on bright paper with charming color and moderate wear, this beautiful piece does not often appear for auction at this grade level without the presence of any meaningful condition impairments. We auctioned another PMG VF 25 certified representative in October 2025 for $5,280. We expect our current offering will perform similarly, if not stronger.
