Description

T12 $5 1861 PF-1 Cr. 49 PMG Very Fine 25.
In the Spring of 1861, Memminger was trying to round up any printer that was competent to meet the new nation's demand for currency. Jules Manouvrier was a smallish New Orleans lithographer who met the minimum requirements, and was given a contract to print $5s and $10s. This $5 turned out to be his only product when a botched shipment ended his days as a government contract holder. The $5 was unique at the time because it had no vignettes on the face but did have a printed back. This example is well printed on bright paper and has a rather vibrant blue back which is always a plus for this type. PMG mentions a restoration that is nothing more that a tiny sealed body hole between the "O" and "r" in "Orls" in the imprint.
