Description
T1 Extremely Fine 40PPQ, cancelled
T1 $1,000 1861 PF-1 Cr. 1.December 19, 1865 was the first public auction of a Montgomery note by identifiable type according to J. Wayne Hilton's reference, Collecting Confederate Currency Hobby and/or Investment? The last Confederate surrender in the field was just six months old, and in fact, the final striking of the Confederate colors was just six weeks old, as the CSS Shenandoah, after circumnavigating the globe, surrendered to a British man-of-war at Liverpool, England. This $1000 grades PCGS Extremely Fine 40PPQ, with six POC and cross-cut cancels. Merits of this attractive example for the grade are ideal inks and premium paper quality, plus it has escaped any improvements over the years. Also, one of the many merits of our archives, is the realization that this $1000 is the only T1 that has earned the coveted PPQ/EPQ grade modifier to appear in our auctions.
