Description
Pennsylvania March 20, 1771 20s PMG About Uncirculated 55 EPQ.The Act of March 9, 1771 provided for the issue of £15,000 in bills intended for the defense of Philadelphia. These funds were diverted and used to pave streets in the city. The Penn family coat of arms appears on the face and nature prints appear on the back. These notes were attractively printed in red and black by Hall and Sellers on paper containing mica flakes. 6,000 of each denomination were printed. Denominations included 5s, 10s, 15s, and 20s. This is a high-grade red and black March 20, 1771 type. Bold color and wide margins on three sides make this a superior type note for the issue date. No Uncirculated notes have been graded by PMG for any denomination from this series. There is a single AU 58 EPQ 15s note and a trio of AU 55 EPQ for all denominations. This PMG Choice AU 55 EPQ is "top pop" for the 20-shilling denomination.
