Description

Impressive 3d Pennsylvania Colonial - Printed by Benjamin Franklin & David Hall

Pennsylvania June 18, 1764 3d PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
The June 18, 1764, Pennsylvania Colonial emission was composed of £55,000 in legal tender Bills of Credit authorized by the Act of May 30, 1764. Our current offering represents the lowest denomination of the series, and it features the British coat of arms at left. The colony's name is also misspelled as "Pennsilvania" on the face of the note, a secret diagnostic meant to fool would-be counterfeiters. This measure was also utilized on several other emissions of Colonials from Pennsylvania. The back is typeset and displays the ever popular printer's imprint of "B. Franklin, and D. Hall." With a boldly penned signature of T(homas) Wharton and serial number 73220, deep design embossing, generous and full margins, and complete paper surface originality, this representative has certainly earned its Gem Uncirculated grade and Exceptional Paper Quality designation. We have not auctioned a PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ certified note of this layout and denomination since January 2020, when another representative reached $5,040. We could very well see that price tested or far exceeded when the hammer falls tonight for this stunning piece.
