Description

Carlisle, PA- (Wray & Lamberton) 1d Sep. 5, 1789 Hoober 53-39 PMG Uncirculated 62.
This post-colonial merchant issue was intended for use by the partnership of John Wray and James Lamberton due to a chronic shortage of coins. This issue was approved at a town meeting at the time. The note has a rather plain face design and a decorative back design depicting a rural scene that seems to portray a somewhat positive theme with the sun brightly shining and a "Liberty Cap" hanging on a pole. PMG notes that this example has evidence of previous mounting on the back. This is a broadly margined and well printed note that will upgrade any collection to which it is added.
