Description
John Hart Signer of the Declaration of Independence
New Jersey March 25, 1776 3s Fine.First approved on May 10, 1768, £100,000 in legal tender Bills of Credit in Proclamation Money was scheduled for issue. The Crown rejected the issue due to legal tender issues twice in 1769. After the legislation was reworked, the Crown finally conditionally approved the issue in 1775. When the American Revolution began, these conditions were essentially considered void and the issue was finally made. The note is well printed with clear design details, including the nature print on the back, on bright paper with mica flakes and a NEW JERSEY watermark. There is a small white sticker on the back. John Hart's signature is, of course, historically important as he was a signer of the Declaration of Independence less than three years before his death in 1779. It is the middle signature between Robert Smith and John Stevens Jr on this example. There are some pinholes and stains. A small whWe recently auctioned a slightly better example for over $2,000.
