Iconic Codfish Vignette at Upper Center - Engraved by Paul Revere
Massachusetts October 16, 1778 3d PMG Choice Uncirculated
63.Bearing a wide lower margin, this 3d Massachusetts Colonial features an interesting vignette of a codfish at upper center. Part of an issuance of £8,000 in legal tender Bills of Credit, the engraved face of this note was printed by Paul Revere, while the back was produced by Thomas Fleet. In January 2022, we auctioned a PMG 63 example with minor stains which brought $780. Our current offering has fortunately survived its nearly 250 years in existence without attracting any meaningful condition impairments and should thus outperform that figure.
