Near Gem PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ Codfish Note
Massachusetts October 16, 1778 2s PMG Choice Uncirculated 64
EPQ.Beautifully balanced with a wide bottom margin and perhaps conservatively graded, this note is from the second date and back style for the Revere "Codfish" bills. The October 16, 1778 notes with the Thomas Fleet backs are sometimes encountered in choice condition like this and were once part of cut-off notes from leftover three note strips. This is a choice example with ample face margins and strong printing. The pine tree details are bold and well defined on the back-ideal for the series and type. The Newman, 4 Shilling note, graded PCGS Very Choice New 64PPQ and sold for $1,680 five years ago. This is top pop according to the PMG Population Report. We have rarely encountered finer than this.
