Description

Maryland March 1, 1770 $2/9 PMG Good 6 Net.
Printed by the mother-son team of Anne Catherine Green and William Green, this fractional denomination note was part of a $318,000 emission authorized in 1769. The face incorporates the Maryland coat of arms while the back has a nature print. This note was kept in circulation by some enterprising soul who backed it with a period German language document. Were it not for this, the note would have probably been lost to the ages hundreds of years ago, as the note appears to have a major center fold separation that may have, in fact, completely separated the note. In spite of this, the note still has clear design details and even legible signatures of Clapham and Robert Couden.
