Part of a $5,000,000 emission, this $5 depicts a hand being pricked reaching into a thorn bush with the motto SUSTINE VEL ABSTINE (Either survive or give up) on the face and a nature print of betony and sage leaves on the back. The note is well printed and fully framed, with bold signatures of Robert (?) Dorsey and Benjamin Brannan. A split is mentioned on the back label.
