Description

Continental Currency May 20, 1777 $3 PMG About Uncirculated 50.
Part of an emission of $16,500,000, this note was called for exchange prior to January 1, 1779. This date was extended to January 1, 1781, by which time the notes were virtually worthless. The $3 features an eagle and a heron fighting with the motto EXITUS IN DUBIO EST (The Outcome is in doubt) while the back has a nature print of skeletonized elm and maple fruit. The note is clearly printed with ample margins and signed by M. Mahon in black, but with an illegible red signature. PMG mentions pinholes on this piece which is a scarce note, particularly at this grade level.
