Description
Continental Currency May 10, 1775 $6 Blue Counterfeit Detector PMG Extremely Fine 40.Counterfeiting appeared on the scene almost as soon as Continental Currency began entering circulation. One approach taken to combat this by both the Continental Congress and Pennsylvania was to print impressions taken from genuine plates on distinctive blue (and occasionally pink) paper and distribute them to Treasury personnel. All such notes were issued unsigned and unnumbered. Newman states on page 38 of his 2023 reference, "To aid in counterfeit detection unsigned bills and sheets of bills, printed on pink paper (except the $20 which was on blue paper) were distributed to officials for comparison purposes." However, the $6 counterfeit detector note in this lot, is printed on blue paper. PMG mentions minor stains which are not overly distracting. A neat adjunct item for any collection of Continental or Colonial currency.
