The $3 offered here was issued as part of the first emission of Continentals, a series which created the very first federally issued currency. Dated May 10, 1775, but put into circulation in August, notes such as this $3 assisted in paying for the initial expenses of the American Revolution. Our current offering has a split at lower center which has been repaired on the back.
