Continental Currency May 10, 1775 $2 PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ.
The May 10, 1775, Session of the Continental Congress authorized $3,000,000 in Continental Currency payable theoretically in Spanish Milled Dollars via two resolutions in June and July of that year. The $2 denomination features a vignette of grain being threshed with a flail with the motto TRIBULATIO DITAT (Affliction improves it) on the face and a nature print of raspberry and two filbert leaves, identical to the nature print previously used on Pennsylvania colonial issues. The note is well printed on bright paper with good margins and bold design elements including the dark bold signatures of Thomas Barton, Jr. and Samuel Morris.
